We have responsibility to act and make a difference in the fashion industry
We may not like the thought, but we are all responsible for the world’s current state (Over consumption, Global warming/climate change, etc). And yet we are not eager to make a change. We need to adjust our lifestyle to protect the environment and we have to start from the basics. The food we eat, the clothes we wear, our habit of buying new product/clothes/gadget every week and so on. Each of us can get involved. We should start asking questions and require more information for the products which are out there and in the same time reduce our consumption.
“Talk about Fashion pollution, no one blinks an eye. Say the word Eco Fashion & everyone losses their mind”
Let's talk about what we CAN improve, because Fashion is not going to disappear.
The Fashion industry is worth more than $2.3 trillion, employing about 49 million people, and is believed to be in the top 3 of the most polluting industries in the world. Textile production contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined. The lack of transparency and traceability across fashion supply chains is a major challenge. I’ve been part of the fashion industry for over 5 years and I’ve learned a lot about the different processes involved in making a product. Fashion has the power to make positive change and I’ve seen how this industry has changed for the past 2 years rapidly. A lot of small brands and big retailers have already made the first move of becoming involved in protecting the environment by sourcing and producing more sustainable ranges, as well as requiring their factories to join the *Fair Wage Network. (*The initiative works to bring together fashion brands, garment producers, NGO´s, worker representatives, and researchers to promote fair wages around the world.)
The change is coming!
Recently more and more people ask themselves where their food is coming from, how is it produced and how healthy it is. We are reading the ingredients and questioning the origin of our food, why not doing the same with our clothes?
We should start from somewhere and take the first step. MARECO will try to help you out in the best possible way by giving you a detailed information for every product we make and if you can’t find the information you need in our website you can always reach us and ask.
Stay tuned and subscribe for our website, so you can get notified about future blogs where we will discuss more about the different Ethical and Sustainable fabrics out there and insights of our brand. Next blog will be for LENZING. I will keep each blog as simple as possible with still a lot of information and I would love to see your comments below. It will be a huge benefit for each of us if we share experience, thoughts and opinions!
